Prologue

It was supposed to be a bright and eventful day for the Sumeragi twins as the gloomy atmosphere around the compound of their home overwhelmed everything positive they supposed to feel that day. The family gathered around the compound, whispering nothing but their grieved. A few that came later give their utmost condolences to the family.

“Such a sad thing happened during this eventful day.”
“Yes. Pity the twins. This should have been their glorious day as to think they both should represent the graduation day with their speech.” 

“Shhh… shouldn’t be saying that. Though, the parents must have been proud of them. I just couldn’t believe they were caught in the tragic accident.”

“Speaking of which, I heard it was sabotage…"

“Aunties, if you would refrain from whisperings gossips it would be pleasant for us and for our parents,” Kamui hissed without looking at them. 

They should be grateful that he didn’t punch them on their faces. Respect your elders, so he was told by Subaru.

“My… What a rude kid!”

The gossiping aunties took their leave as they muttering how rude he was and how they preferred Subaru than him. 

That is fine, he thought. Everybody love Subaru and they should be. He too loves his twin. It doesn’t matter if people despised him as long as he can protect Subaru. That’s what matter. 

“You shouldn’t do that, Kamui.”

Kamui snorted, “They deserved it” 

Subaru can’t help but gave his twin a small smile. His eyes then darted back towards the coffins that held his deceased parents. Slowly Kamui’s hand reaches for Subaru’s and he squeezed it gently. He knows the death of their parents give more impact on Subaru. Of course, he was sad but his sadness couldn’t be compared to his fragile twin. He is too kind. 

“It’s okay Subaru. I’m here…” he whispered softly, only for Subaru’s ear to reach.
Subaru squeezes Kamui’s hand back. 

“I am okay, Kamui.” He replied softly. “I just hope they both will go to a place that can give them happiness.”

“They will… They deserved it.” 

Subaru smile again. “I know this will sound a bit cold to anyone that will hear this but I am happy they both went together. They could finally rest now.”

Kamui shook his head as he looked deeply in his twin’s eyes, “I know you just don’t want either of them to be alone there.”

“As long as you are here with me Kamui, I know I can go through whatever life I will be facing in the future,” he told Kamui earnestly. 

Kamui could not help but feel pride overwhelmed him. He slowly leaned his forehead towards his twin’s. 

“We could go through this together, Subaru. I’ll protect you.”

“I’ll do the same.”
